The Niche.
Performance, film documentation, edition (Fragments of the chipped plaster)
Sara Mayoral knocked the plaster off a section of wall in the stairwell leading upstairs during the exhibition installation. The exposed trapezoid is based on the shape of the small wall niches in the staircase, which she scaled according to their physical proportions.
The film documentation of this performance is found on a small tube TV in a niche on the back of the wall, as a preservation of the work done. The arrangement thus alludes to Marsch's concept of objectified labour (according to which concrete human activity as a labour process actually becomes invisible in the finished product).
